چکیده

A model is developed to minimize the life cycle cost of a system providing availability of services from a constellation of satellites. The model consists of a cost model, and a performance model. The cost model includes the cost of purchasing and maintaining an inventory of satellites and launch vehicles, launch operations, and on orbit operations. The performance model evaluates the availability over geographic grid averaging areas over a given period of time. Availability of navigation accuracy was analyzed and benchmarked against trade study and local optimization techniques. Depending on the definition of service availability the global optimization techniques were able to reduce the life cycle cost from 2% up to 17% or 134 – 436 $ (10) over the trade study and local optimization techniques.

Scheduling a constellation of agile earth observation satellites with preemption

In this paper, we consider a scheduling problem for a set of agile Earth observation satellites for scanning  different parts of the Earth’s surface. We assume that preemption is allowed to prevent repetitive images and develop four different preemption policies. Scheduling is done for the imaging time window and transmission time domain to the Earth stations as well. The value of each picture ...

The Availability of Space Service for Inter-Satellite Links in Navigation Constellations

Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) are widely used in low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite navigation; however, their availability is poor for users in medium Earth orbits (MEO), and high Earth orbits (HEO). With the increasing demand for navigation from MEO and HEO users, the inadequate coverage of GNSS has emerged. Inter-satellite links (ISLs) are used for ranging and communication between...

Development of a Real-time GNSS Software Receiver for Evaluating RAIM in Multi-constellation

As Global Navigation Satellite System continues to upgrade, there will be an increasing number of satellites and signals. This offers users benefits such as increased availability and improved diversity of signal. For safetyof-life users like aviation, higher availability of integrity is the key goal. A technology providing integrity with little or no ground infrastructure overhead is receiver ...

GPS Navigation Using Three Satellites and a Precise Clock

Navigation using GPS generally requires that the user track four satellites to resolve his 3-D spatial position and time bias. There are several reasons why it is desirable to navigate while tracking only three satellites: -The proposed 18 satellite GPS constellation will exhibit substantial periods of poor four satellite geometry over large geographic areas several times a day. -Failure of a G...

SPACE APPLICATIONS OF THE GLOBAL POSITIONING AND TIMING SERVICE (GPtS)

Alison Brown, NAVSYS Corporation ABSTRACT Spaceborne Global Positioning System (GPS) technology is being widely accepted by both the commercial space industry and by NASA as a key enabler for improving space operations. The use of GPS for space missions has resulted in improvements in space vehicle autonomy and reduced design and operations cost. The current GPS constellation includes 24 MEO sa...
